The journey to wellness is often a personal one, shaped by experiences, challenges, and the desire to learn. I started Timmons Wellness because I wanted to share the knowledge I’ve accumulated over the past 20 years about health optimization and disease prevention. My goal has always been to help others become the healthiest versions of themselves. Ironically, while I gained extensive knowledge about disease treatment in medical school, I realized that I hadn’t learned nearly enough about health and wellness optimization.

My Early Struggles

During my time in medical school and residency, I wasn’t exactly a picture of health. The grueling 30-hour shifts left little room for proper sleep or nutrition. I often grabbed whatever food was convenient, leading to a lifestyle that was far from ideal. I felt sluggish and weighed about 10 pounds more than I do today. In medical school, I wasn’t learning how to be healthy, just how to treat disease. It was during my early years in primary care that I began to notice a critical gap in my education and practice. Patients would come to me, seeking advice on how to maintain their health or prevent conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease. This prompted me to realize that I needed to deepen my understanding of health optimization and disease prevention.

Becoming My Own Guinea Pig

Determined to change my trajectory, I embarked on a journey of self-education. I immersed myself in literature on nutrition, fitness, sleep quality, stress management, and personal growth. My first steps involved implementing simple changes: ensuring I consumed enough vegetables, protein, and healthy fats with each meal. However, I soon discovered that even with a balanced diet, nutrient gaps could remain. This realization led me to explore the world of supplements and their role in filling those gaps.

As I delved deeper, I became acquainted with functional medicine and root cause approaches. I enrolled in courses that emphasized specialized testing to explore aspects like hormone levels, micronutrient deficiencies, inflammation, and immune function. This learning shifted my perspective on health; I began to see food as medicine and recognized the transformative power of high-quality supplementation to correct imbalances. My perspective shifted to a focus on Health is not just the absence of disease but the abundance of vitality.

Sharing Knowledge and Building a Practice

As I transitioned into motherhood and married life, I began sharing the insights I had gained with my family and friends. And I felt an increasing desire to pass this knowledge on to my patients. However, working within an insurance-based healthcare system posed challenges. With only 15-minute patient visits, there was little time to discuss comprehensive lifestyle changes. Prescribing medication to address symptoms was far quicker than guiding someone toward the profound changes necessary for long-term health.

The Birth of Timmons Wellness

Thus, Timmons Wellness was born—a practice where I could genuinely help patients create their healthiest selves. By utilizing advanced evidence-based tests and health coaching for lifestyle changes, I empower individuals to take charge of their health. My approach is holistic, focusing on prevention and optimization rather than merely treating symptoms. In this journey, I am not just a healthcare provider; I am a partner in health, committed to guiding others on their paths to wellness. Together, we can build a healthier future, one informed choice at a time.
